About us

Our band started its operation in the school year of 2006/2007 and we also started to use the name ‘Youth Wind Band of Dombóvár’. Our members are mostly come from the youth and young adults of our city and its surroundings and we have students from the present and former Apáczai Csere János Educational Centre. The number of our musicians is 51 at the moment, the average age is 18.

The leader and the conductor of the band has been András Kiszler, right from the beginning. He has graduated as a wind orchestra conductor and teacher of the trumpet. From the school year of 2007/2008 two more teachers have been helping our work-Eszter Ada Tóth (Teacher of the Clarinet) and Ölveti Gábor (Teacher of Brass).

Our repertoire varies from historical marches and different Hungarian and foreign wind pieces to adaptations of classical and popular music pieces. We consider our mission to brighten the cultural life of Dombóvár and the Transdanubian region. In addition we intend to foster the traditions of Hungarian and foreign orchestras. We also find it important to follow and popularise new trends of wind orchestras. We are also concerned about community values and we would like to provide meaningful and cultural free time activities for the youth.

The highest honour of our work wad received on 7 June 2008 when we presented a qualifying concert in the WASBE system. A three-member panel judged our performance (Csikota József, Markovics Gábor , Szabó Ferenc) and awarded our band with a Gold Degree.

Our first CD was published in January 2010 with the most popular pieces of the past 4 years.
